Diplomacy is a seven player game where players play as one of the seven major powers during world war 1 and attempt to negotiate with each other while conquering the world around them. Below I go over how to play one of the countries.
France always gets off to a good start but is in a difficult position. France always gets Spain and Portugal, but must defend Marseille from the Italians and its northern border from a Germany and England. Here are your best moves:
Alliance or peace treaty with England – If you have an alliance or peace treaty with England, your goal is to quickly expand and then crush Germany. Because of you alliance, you should agree with England that neither of you take the English Channel. This makes you free to conquer Spain and Portugal. Here are your opening moves:
Spring – F Brest to Mid At, A Mars to Spain, A Paris to Burgundy
Fall – F Mid At to SC (south coast) Spain, A Spain to Port or A Spain to Mars if Italy is in Pied, if move to Burgundy successful then either A Burgundy to Munich or A Burgundy to Bel, if move to Burgundy failed then try again. This allows you to spawn most likely two units and gives you a military power in the south and the north. I would spawn a fleet in Mars which gives you two fleets and an army marching on Italy. I’d also spawn an army in Paris or a Brest if Paris is taken up.
Alliance with Germany – if you have an alliance with Germany, you need to defend the English Channel. Your opening moves are:
Spring – F Brest to En Chan, A Paris to Pic, A Mars to Spain
Fall – F En Chan to Lon, if you didn’t get En Chan then F Brest to En Chan, A
Pic to Bel, A Spain Hold or A Spain to Mars if Italy in Pied. This gives you a minimum of one piece, most likely two, a chance at the English Channel, and prevents England from getting the English Channel.
